Is there a trailer for Dandadan?

The first trailer for Dandadan arrived in November 2023, announcing the anime was in production.

It’s a brisk montage of the kind of happenings you can expect from Dandadan. You’ve got weird aliens, wacky ghosts, and our leads finding themselves in all sorts of hairy situations. It’s flashy, comes with some cool, electronica-infused theme music, and makes it clear this is an ambitious project for all involved.

A second trailer was released in March 2024, with more of the same in terms of kinetic energy and wacky visuals.

Dandadan plot

Dandadan involves two high school friends, Momo Ayase and Ken Takakura, who hold conflicting beliefs — Momo believes in ghosts, but not aliens, whereas Ken is the opposite. They challenge each other to go to separate places where both phenomena have been encountered, only to find out extraterrestrials and poltergeists are both real.

Their experiences lead to some strange powers, as Momo becomes telekinetic, and Ken can transform into a demon alter-ego. They decide to investigate into paranormal and phenomena and UFOs, creating all sorts of wacky hijinks.

Who is making Dandadan?

Dandadan is being made by Science SARU, the studio behind Scott Pilgrim Takes Off and Devilman Crybaby. Fuga Yamashira is directing the show, as his first time in the director’s chair after contributing to several productions, including rock opera Inu-Oh and Devilman Crybaby, in various roles.

Hiroshi Seko is writing the screenplay, and, perhaps most excitingly, the score is coming from Kensuke Ushio. He’s the man who put together all the tunes for Inu-Oh, and if you’ve seen that, you know Dandadan is going to have some very memorable compositions.

Dandadan cast

DandadanJNN

Momo Ayase and Ken Takakura will be voiced by Shion Wakayama and Natsuki Hanae, respectively, in the Dandadan anime. These are both very capable performers, as Shino has had roles in Zom 100 and Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury, while Natsuki will very familiar, as the voice of Tanjiro from Demon Slayer.

Given how anticipated Dandadan is, they’re getting off on the right foot with these names for the lead roles. A slew of characters have bit parts, from other students to family members. So far, none of these have been cast. We’ll update as we hear more!

Where can you watch the Dandadan anime?

Dandadan will stream on Crunchyroll and Netflix once it’s released, depending on your territory. Both companies have distribution deals in place — not unusual since My Hero Academia, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Demon Slayer are all available on the two — but the global breakdown of what country has the show and when remains to be seen.

We’d expect Crunchyroll to have weekly release on simulcast, like it does for many of the biggest upcoming anime, and then Netflix gets the full season later. But that’s just a guess — watch this space.
