Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama has died at age 68 due to health-related complications.
When it comes to the world of anime and Japanese pop culture, many will know and love the Dragon Ball franchise. The manga, which was first created by Toriyama in September 1985, won over the hearts of fans instantly.
However, news has hit the Dragon Ball community as well as the manga and anime industries at large on March 7, 2024. Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama is confirmed to have died at age 68.
News of the creator’s death was revealed via the offical Dragon Ball Z Twitter account. The page sharing a letter to their fans as well as those close to Toriyama. The cause of his death was an acute subdural hematoa.
“We are deeply saddened to inform you that Manga creator Akira Toriyama passed away on March 1 due to acute subdural hematoma. It’s our deep regret that he still had several works in the middle of creation with great enthusiasm. Also, he would have many more things to achieve.”
The letter continues further, reflecting on the impact Toriyama had on the manga and anime world.

“However, he has left many manga titles and works of art in the world. Thanks to the support of so many people around the world, he has been able to continue his creative activities for over 45 years. We hope that Akira Toriyama’s unique world of creation continues to be loved by everyone for a long time to come.
We inform you of this sad news, with gratefulness for your kindness during his lifetime. We deeply thank you for your understanding and support as always.”
