The Figarland family in One Piece is both mysterious and crucial to the storyline. Here’s everything we know about them.
The One Piece manga is currently featuring its Final Saga. The series has revealed several mysteries in the Egghead Island arc, and there’s more to come as we move forward with the series. So far, the series has revealed the Reverie flashback and is currently featuring Kuma’s past while also briefly featuring the God Valley Incident.
Ever since his debut, Saint Figarland Garling has been a topic of discussion as he has enough authority even to sentence a Celestial Dragon to death. It’s been a few months since he was introduced, but the series didn’t reveal anything about him since then.
We saw his younger version in the recent chapter. Knowing Garling’s authority and how the Revolutionary Army fears him, it’s certain that the Figarland family in One Piece will have a significant role to play in the Final Saga.
Everything we know about the Figarland family in One Piece
The Figarland family in One Piece is one of the royal bloodlines of the World Nobles – meaning they’re Celestial Dragons. Their ancestors were part of the alliance between the twenty kingdoms that formed the World Government.
The Figarland family was first mentioned in One Piece Film: Red, where Gorosei considered the possibility of Uta being from the bloodline since she’s Shanks’ daughter. However, she is actually his adoptive daughter, so it doesn’t mean she has direct links to the family.
As of now, Saint Garling Figarland is the only known character in One Piece from the Figarland family. He is the Supreme Commander of God’s Knights and the champion of a tournament in God Valley.
His powers have yet to be revealed, but he is hinted to be one of the strongest characters in the series – someone even Monkey D. Dragon considers a threat. Garling can execute other Celestial Dragons whose behavior is intolerable. He executed Donquixote Mjosgard for standing up against his fellow nobles who wanted to enslave the Mermaid Princess Shirahoshi.
Shanks’ connection with Saint Figarland Garling
Although the series has yet to mention it, all hints confirm that Shanks is indeed Garling’s son. Roger found baby Shanks in a treasure chest during the God Valley Incident. Furthermore, One Piece Chapter 1095 reveals Garling’s appearance from 38 years ago, and his face is exactly the same as Shanks.

It’s also possible that Shanks is aware of his noble lineage since he meets with Gorosei in Chapter 907. The Five Elders allowed him entrance into the Pangea Castle of Marie Geoise, where only a select few can enter. Since Shanks is a pirate, he shouldn’t have been able to enter such a place if everyone there were unaware of his identity.
Shanks is one of the very characters introduced at the beginning of the series. Despite that, he is still extremely mysterious, as we know almost nothing about him, even though we have entered the Final Saga.
