Solo Leveling Episode 3 revealed the ‘Second Awakening,’ but what is it exactly?
Sung Jin-Woo was on the verge of death at the end of the second episode, but the weakling hunter miraculously survived. He is visited by some officials from the organization of the hunters after he wakes up at the hospital after three days of the ordeal Dungeon.
The officials inform Jin-Woo about the traumatizing situation of Joo-hee and Mr. Song’s possibility of getting retired after losing an arm. The two men also tell him how the White Tiger Guild members rescued him after he collapsed.
Jin-Woo’s survival from the dangerous Dungeon was no less than a miracle, so the officials start speculating that he might have had a “Second Awakening.” And as the episode didn’t take us deep into that element, here we discuss what having a ‘Second Awakening’ for a hunter is like.
What is the Second Awakening in Solo Leveling?
Solo Leveling revolves around the hunters who go through an “Initial Awakening” to fight against the magic beasts that are a threat to humankind. However, in rare cases, some hunters experience a “Second Awakening” that enhances the powers they have already developed after their first awakening. The Second Awakening, also known as Reawakening, not only alters the powers internally but also changes the physical appearance of the hunter.

The human world and the alternate dimensions are connected through gates only visible to the hunters. Through these gateways, the magic beasts can enter and invade the human world. However, these creatures must be defeated within seven days of the gate’s appearance.
Does Sung Jin-Woo experience a Second Awakening?
When Sung Jin-Woo returns alive from the D-Rank Dungeon that killed most of his teammates, everyone is shocked. The officials of the hunter organization doubt that the weakest hunter might have undergone the second awakening. However, after testing his rank on the Mana meter, they start believing that they must have been mistaken.
Even though the protagonist fights and defeats several creatures after his recovery, nothing can be said with certainty if it’s the Second Awakening or the “System” that made him so powerful.
