That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime is an incredibly popular anime, and streaming service Crunchyroll is now setting a global theatrical release for the spin-off movie.
As anime increasingly becomes more popular globally – especially amongst young people – Crunchyroll, in coordination with Sony, has been heavily focusing on theatrical releases of big anime titles.
Recently, Crunchyroll announced cinematic worldwide release plans for the movies of fan-favorite animes, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero and One Piece Film: Red.
And now, this will be leading to a global release of an upcoming anime film, based on the hit isekai series That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime. That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime the Movie: Scarlet Bond will be distributed in cinemas worldwide early next year.
What is the That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime movie about?
That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime the Movie: Scarlet Bond will be based on the best-selling light novel, which is written by Fuze and illustrated by Mitz Vah, similar to how the anime is based on it.
The anime follows Mikami Satoru, an ordinary 37-year-old who dies and is reincarnated in a fantastical world as the most un-fantastical creature imaginable: a slime, who happens to be both blind and deaf. Things are tough for while, but Satoru – who now calls himself Rimuru Tempest – is able to make the best of things, and with his only special abilities, “Predator” and “Great Sage,” he is able to gain both friends and foes alike.

Not much has been confirmed about the plot of the upcoming film, but it will be a standalone story that takes place after Season 2 of the anime.
When will the That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime movie come out?
That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime the Movie: Scarlet Bond, will debut in Japan in November 2022, but will be distributed in all major global territories in early 2023.
As Mitchel Berger – Crunchyroll’s Senior VP Global Commerce, stated to The Hollywood Reporter – “The series remains a fan-favorite with Crunchyroll audiences, and we’re thrilled to continue the adventures with the theatrical release of the film early next year on the big screen.”
Looking at previous anime movie releases, this film is set to be a success. 2018’s Dragon Ball Super: Broly made more than $110 million worldwide, and Demon Slayer the Movie: Mugen Train earned a whopping $504 million. While That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime isn’t quite as popular as those franchises, it’s clear that Crunchyroll is looking to make a good profit.
