Heirlooms are an ultra-rare cosmetics in Apex Legends but you’ll need to have plenty of Heirloom Shards to unlock them.
Heirlooms not only look extremely cool in Apex Legends but they also feature unique animations, banner poses, and unique intro quips for different Legends. You can also see the Heirloom in your character’s hand when their weapon is holstered too.
Before you can kit a Legend out with Heirlooms, however, you’ll need some Heirloom Shards first so here’s how to get them in the battle royale.
How to get Heirloom Shards
You can purchase Heirlooms from the Heirloom Store in Apex Legends but first, you’ll need to open some Apex Packs to get Heirloom Shards.
Packs can be obtained by leveling up, ranking up the battle pass, and purchasing them with the game’s premium currency (Apex Coins).
The other method of getting Heirloom Shards is by finishing event collections. Completing an event without a mythic will grant you Heirloom Shards.
According to the Apex Legends official FAQ, every Apex Pack has less than a 1% chance of dropping 150 Heirloom Shards. This is currently the only way you can obtain Heirloom Shards. Heirlooms cost 150 Heirloom Shards to craft, so you’ll need to either get incredibly lucky or open up a lot of loot boxes.
Heirloom after 500 Apex Packs
To make sure everyone can get a Heirloom without spending any money, Respawn has ensured that you cannot open 500 packs without getting any Heirloom Shards.
According to the developers: “A player cannot open more than 500 Apex Packs (excludes Collection Event Packs) without receiving Heirloom Shards (assuming the player does not own all of the available Heirloom Sets and Prestige Skins). Once a player owns all of the Heirloom Sets and Prestige Skins, the player will not be eligible for this bonus until more Heirloom Sets or Prestige Skins are added to the game.”
