Apex Legends Season 20 will bring in a couple of new modes off the rip, including the fast-paced Straight Shot LTM. Here’s what we know about the new modes so far.
Apex Legends Season 20 is upon us and Respawn has planned a ton of new content this time around. A new Legend upgrade system is on the way where four upgrades are added to every legend and the way how armors work has been overhauled.
Significant changes are coming to Ranked as well as some new game modes for battle royale: a TDM-based mode called Lockdown and a battle royale mode called Straight Shot.
Here’s everything you need to know about the new game modes in Apex Legends Season 20.
Apex Legends Season 20 game modes explained
Straight Shot
Straight Shot is a Batte Royale mode, but the lobby size is cut down to 30 players, and matches are sped up. The games are held in a smaller part of the map and the end ring arrives around the 10-minute mark.
Unlike the original BR mode, you or your squad won’t be dropping out of a ship. Instead, squads will just start at a random point of interest with two other teams in each POI.
All weapons come kitted, with no options to loot attachments. However, you will be able to swap the scopes and sights between weapons to adjust between combat at different ranges. And the best thing is you don’t have to go back to the lobby, as you can queue from the spectate screen itself.

Lockdown
Lockdown is the new Team Deathmatch-style mode arriving with Apex Legends Season 20. This means there are no limits to respawns, serving as the ideal ground for warmup before entering Ranked.
We don’t know quite as much about Lockdown yet from the developers, so stay tuned.
Mixtape and Thunderdome map
For Mixtape, players get a new custom map called “Thunderdome”, which is a floating stadium and pays homage to Kings Canyon.
In this mode, Legends will compete in front of a live audience for the first time in the game’s history.
And for the second half of Season 20, Three Strikes LTM will make a comeback. It was first introduced during Season 19 as a part of the Apex Legends Post Malone Event. Players loved Three Strikes and its return will surely “bring back the joy” to the game.
