Crypto’s addition into Apex Legends: Season 3 has provided fans with a more conservative style of play a new Legend which they can exploit — but does the Surveillance Expert need a buff?

Crypto was officially introduced into the Apex Legends universe as part of the sizable update which came as part of Season 3: Meltdown.
However, although fans have relished his cryptic backstory, the character hasn’t quite had the same in-game impact of previous additions to the diverse roster of characters.
On paper, Crypto brings a set of game-changing abilities. However, the encryption expert hasn’t quite revamped the meta in the way that Respawn would have perhaps intended.
Given the logistical restrictions which Crypto’s set of abilities bring to the table, a Reddit user has given an insight into how the developers could enhance the vigilante hacker’s impact.
Posted to the Apex Legends subreddit, the user proposed the following changes:

- Passive: Increase scan from 30m to 50m.
- Tactical: Increase drone health and slightly reduce the sound they make.
- Ultimate: Shorter time (to obtain); increase time of stun. Can disable Gibraltar’s Shield and Wattson’s Ultimate.

Implementing the suggested changes would mean that Crypto’s ability to spy on his opponents would be significantly improved (which is essentially the entire premise behind the character).
Moreover, should Crypto’s Ultimate alteration would change the dynamic of playing the character entirely, given that the EMP currently has very little in-game implications (other than the shield damage dealt).
However, some argued that this wouldn’t be enough to solve Crypto’s struggles, arguing that his real downfall is his inability to “defend himself” with his abilities.

Gibraltar’s Shield has been a topical point of discussion within the community, given the size of the shield and buff that it provides to a player’s health.
Although the changes put forward offer more of an enticing slant to the Korean’s character, it is difficult to imagine whether or not they would leave a significant enough footprint on World’s Edge to alter the meta entirely.
