Respawn Entertainment have announced that the popular Evo Shields in Apex Legends Season 4 will now become a permanent feature of the battle royale game, not just part of the System Override event.
Apex Legends’s developers were open to feedback about the new type of armor since they were still undecided if the item type could have a place in the wider playlists of the battle royale and have now made a decision.
“To start, the Evo Shield will be exclusive to the Deja Loot gamemode and spawn at higher rates,” the devs said in the System Override Collection Event patch notes. “After the event we’ll consider adding the Evo Shield to all matches, so please give us your feedback.”
The trial period for Deja Loot’s unique armor must have been a success since it’s now going to be included in Ranked, Play Apex and future LTMs from here on out.
It’s unknown how Evo Shields will affect games with higher stakes than a casual LTM, but we’ll soon find out because the decision has been made by developers.

While Evo Shield was a fun item to play with in Deja Loot, they can be an asset for competitive players trying to earn a Champions screen in Ranked.

Unlike typical body armor, Evo Shields become more valuable as players deal damage to reach certain thresholds. This can result in a late-game armor that provides more protection than the coveted Legendary (Gold) Body Shield.
The breakdown for the Evo Shield’s progression:
- 0 Damage – 25 Shield
- 100 Damage – 50 Shield
- 300 Damage – 100 Shield
- 500 Damage – 125 Shield
Since the armor and its current level can carry over to another user, teams can exchange upgraded Evo Shields among themselves or find them in death boxes from a fallen opponent.
The armor will definitely add a new layer of decision-making in Ranked where late-game fights can be decided by mere pixels worth of health.
It will be interesting to see if Respawn experiments with ‘Evo’ variants for other gear like Backpacks, Knockdown Shields, and Helmets, but until then players can expect to come across Evo Shields in all playlists for Apex Legends in Season 4.
