Crypto’s ability kit in Apex Legends wasn’t designed for the most offensively-minded players, but users have been getting creative with his drone, which instantly changes the Legend’s potential.
With anticipation for Season 4 building, Respawn Entertainment launched the Grand Soiree event that brought new changes to characters in the form of various nerfs and buffs.
Apex Legends players have been theory-crafting strats with every character’s capabilities, making for some unique tactics and hilarious ingenuity to really throw off the competition on World’s Edge.
In a post, Reddit user ‘Francosteiny’ used a bit of teamwork and a cornered enemy Wraith to come up with a “new Crypto strat,” while alo discovering the “drone’s hidden utility” that can send explosive deliveries to opposing squads.
Playing as Wraith themselves, Francosteiny threw an Arc Star so that it would stick to the flying drone above them. Amazingly, the successful interaction between the two elements made it so that Crypto’s drone now had a ticking bomb on it, waiting to explode.
Knowing where the enemy was holding up, Crypto navigated the drone up to the second-floor balcony, where the special delivery exploded just in time.
The explosion dealt 100 damage to the Wraith, immediately breaking the foe’s gold Body Armor and sending them in a panic, seeing as they were cornered against the incoming team.

Francosteiny and their team made quick work of the lone Wraith, chalking up the kamikaze drone as a success – though there was a large margin for error, as the user explained everything that could’ve gone wrong with their operation.
“To be fair, they have to be super close and the throw/timing is a lot tougher than a person AND you could shoot it down,” they revealed.
Still, with the success of the play, the Apex community was instantly impressed, seeing as the strat was equal parts creative and hilarious, all while being perfectly executed.
To up the ante, the community started theorizing once again what would happen if you threw in the drone’s EMP.
“We’ll have to get the timing down,” Francosteiny said of the timing window between an EMP’s charge and an Arc Star’s explosion. “Start the EMP, throw the arc stars, and then charge! I’d want the EMP to go off first so the stars don’t break the shields and block the EMP damage.”
It seems there are still more possibilities to uncover using the Crypto strat, and it’ll be exciting to see what players come up with to change how people use the Surveillance Expert in the Apex Games.
