Back on his Apex Legends grind, Michael ‘shroud’ Grzesiek has come to the conclusion that Season 4’s new Revenant Legend isn’t so great, and he thinks it won’t take too long for most players to realize that as well.
Revenant is the new Legend introduced in Apex Legends Season 4 but his ultimate ability, called Death Totem, might not be as powerful as it was hyped up to be.
The Death Totem protects teammates from elimination by spawning them back at the location where its placed instead of allowing them to get downed.
However, there are some drawbacks put in place to balance out its effect. For one, those who spawn back at the Totem are only given one health to survive with. Also, when under its protection, players can’t use body shields to protect themselves, meaning that they only have 100 total health regardless of whether or not they have armor equipped.
Thirdly, and perhaps most importantly, enemies can sabotage Revenant and his team if they find the ult’s location, either by laying a trap or waiting for easily take down the teammates as soon as they spawn back in with one health.
One player who quickly figured this out is shroud, who has been playing a lot of Apex since Season 4 launched, and he demonstrated these major issues with Revenant during one of his recent streams.
Shroud: players will learn “the hard way” about Revenant
Playing in a match with Apex pro Matthew ‘WiKeD’ Robertson and girlfriend Hannah ‘Bnans’ Kennedy, shroud came across a team using Revenant’s ultimate and was easily able to take them down after realizing that their Death Totem was placed out in the open.
“People are going realize the hard way how bad Revenant is,” he said, laughing. “Everyone keeps doing it. We did it, everyone’s going to do it. It sounds good in theory and then you do it and you’re like ‘wait!'”
He’s referencing, of course, the temptation to use the Legend’s ult because of how good it sounds on paper, but in practice, it may end up hurting you more than helping.

After their squad got the match victory, WiKeD gave a brief explanation about how the health aspect of Revenant’s ult makes it not really worth using.
“You have 100 HP each fight, that’s the problem,” he said. “You sacrifice 200 to have two separate 100s, that’s the issue.”
This is definitely true since under the Totem’s protection you can’t use your body armor, meaning you only have your 100 base health. If you get taken out and respawn back in, you now can use your armor’s 100 health’s worth of protection, but you only have 1 base HP under that until you can heal.
The early indications are that, while Revenant may seem like a powerful Legend, he just doesn’t offer enough to break into the top-tier of characters, especially in the game’s competitive sphere.
However, that’s not to say that the Synthetic Nightmare is totally useless, as there are ways to better use his abilities, which we’ve outlined in our 5 important tips and tricks to mastering Revenant guide.
