With two full days of the ALGS Championship 2023 locked in, the pro play meta and team composition is becoming abundantly clear – and there are three legends, in combination, that are by far the most dominant trio at the event.
At the highest level, there’s always been a distinct list of legends used by the pro players in Apex, with the likes of Gibraltar, Seer, and Horizon historically popular picks.
But, with the meta changing quite drastically ahead of the biggest event of the year, teams have quite clearly settled on a single team composition which is muscling all other legends out of the equation.
Thanks to stats compiled by Apex Legends Status, we can see exactly what the best players in the world are favoring.
Bangalore, Catalyst, Horizon meta at ALGS
There are now two days worth of group stage matches to analyze, and looking at the stats, there is a clear winner in terms of team composition – i.e. the three legends most commonly picked by teams.
While some teams have thrown in a Bloodhound, Fuse, or Gibraltar, three Legends are miles ahead.
A whopping 42% of picks consist of Bangalore, Catalyst and Horizon. And even when another Legend is in the mix, two out of three of these characters are almost always in the team. You can see the top five most common team comps here:

Team Composition | Pick Rate |
---|---|
Bangalore, Catalyst, Horizon | 42.06% |
Bangalore, Horizon, Bloodhound | 8.82% |
Catalsyt, Horizon, Fuse | 7.21% |
Bangalore, Catalyst, Bloodhound | 6.47% |
Bangalore, Catalyst, Gibraltar | 4.41% |
Bangalore almost always features, and for good reason – with the number of controller players now in ALGS, Bangalore’s smoke is used to disable their aim assist, putting them at a disadvantage in any gunfight.
Meanwhile, Catalyst’s positional dominance is almost a must-have, especially in late-game situations.
Horizon has always been a popular pick at the pro level, so it’s no surprise really to see her so high up.
The biggest change versus earlier in the year, for example at the Split 1 Playoffs, is the total lack of Seer, who so far has only been picked in a total of seven games. Whereas he was previously in a number of compositions.
Valkyrie too has seen her usefulness tanked, thanks to the addition of mobile respawn beacons and the removal of her scan when skydiving.
Whether Respawn is happy with this clear dominance of three legends or not, remains to be seen, but the developers primarily balance Apex for the wider player base, as opposed to the pro level.
