The Baldur’s Gate 3 community is having a hard time understanding how Wyll isn’t a good fit for the Ansur’s Trials section of the game.
Ansur’s Trials are one of Baldur’s Gate 3’s pieces of side content that can be completely missed if players aren’t looking carefully enough, making it an exciting find during a playthrough.
Once found, the trials offer a set of challenges that must be completed, and they are seemingly well-equipped for one companion in the game: Wyll.
However, the players are realizing that he might not be as good of an option to have in the trials and they really don’t understand why.
Baldur’s Gate 3 players don’t get Wyll’s use in Ansur’s Trials
A post was made on the Baldur’s Gate 3 subreddit that brought up how Wyll fails in each of the four trials that have to be completed in this section.
“He has heart, charm, and ambition, but I feel like it’s such a subtle demonstration of how he’s not suited to lead. Either because he isn’t a leader or because he just isn’t ready yet.”
This has sparked a conversation about Wyll and his characteristics, what they are best suited for, and how or if they can be useful in Ansur’s Trials.

“Yeah this really drives me crazy. The quest has Wyll written all over it but he barely features. Contrast with the Gauntlet of Shar for Shadowheart – I think at minimum, it does a better job of illustrating the mentality and expectations that were instilled within her.”
There are those, however, that think Wyll is far more suited for the Trials than other fans are giving him credit for, as he offers plenty of solid advice throughout.
As one user mentions, Wyll can give players the answer for one Trial as long as the proper books are read beforehand, so “he’d pass at least 2 of the 4 trials.”
Others are pointing to the flaws in the design of the Trials themselves, since many view them as being more of afterthought in design than other parts of Baldur’s Gate 3:
“It’s not that Wyll is ill-suited, rather the whole area is just a total mess and wasn’t given nearly the same attention Shar Gauntlet got.”
Whatever the reasons may be, it is clear that there is something not matching up in Baldur’s Gate 3 when it comes to Wyll and Ansur’s Trials.
