A BG3 player who recently explored the Shadow-Cursed Lands shared details about “one of the saddest things” they encountered in the game.
The Shadow-Cursed Lands in Baldur’s Gate 3 serves as the primary region for the second act. Notably, the area’s eponymous shadow curse wreaks havoc on the land and its surrounding areas, killing off all who come into contact with it.
While some locales such as the Last Light Inn have protection from the deadly curse, players still struggle to navigate the territory unscathed.
But potent environmental storytelling reveals the sad truth about the curse’s devastating effect on the locals.
BG3 fan shares depressing discovery in the Shadow-Cursed Lands
Reddit user IckyBB stumbled across a house near the Last Light Inn while exploring the cursed lands. Perhaps they were on the hunt for loot, but what they found instead proved rather heart-wrenching.
The player entered a bedroom and came face-to-face with a pair of skeletons holding onto one another in a small bed. IckyBB called it “one of the saddest things” they’ve found in Baldur’s Gate 3 to date. A closer look at the screenshot they shared demonstrates why.

The Redditor said what’s especially “heartbreaking” is that both skeletons wore rings whose item descriptions read, “A date was once inscribed on this ring, but most of it has since been worn away by time.”
Several BG3 players responded to the shocking Shadow-Cursed Lands moment in the thread. One user noted, “They died in each other’s arms, they are the lucky ones.”
Someone else agreed with the above sentiment, calling the sight “sweet.” They explained, “I actually thought this was kinda sweet… slowly dying to the shadow curse must suck, but some people at least got to do it cuddled up to a loved one, rather than alone and scared and writing increasingly miserable diary entries.”
Further down the thread, another BG3 fan pointed out something even more painful about the implied scenario. Apparently, there’s another room in the house with a double bed, suggesting the pair lost their child and chose the kid’s room as their final resting place.
This is one subtle story beat that Baldur’s Gate 3 players won’t soon forget.
