How to gain the approval of Shadowheart?

Even though Shadowheart is a follower of Shar, she is a gentle soul who doesn’t prefer violence.

You need to take actions that Shadowheart approves of to be able to romance her in Baldur’s Gate 3. To do this you need to know about the things she approves of:

• Rolling successful persuasion and deception checks.
• Not resorting to violence but using manipulation and trickery instead.
• Helping people in need such as children, animals or refugees.
• Showing distrust in the Githyanki by not siding with them in dialogue options.
• Allowing her to express her faith in Shar and approving of it.
• Respecting her boundaries and not being nosy.

Most of the romances in Baldur’s Gate 3 start in your Camp, so head there often and make sure you chat with Shadowheart as much as you can especially when she has an exclamation mark. You’ll also want to bring her along in your party, that way she can approve of your actions and your romance will begin.

Shadowheart romance progression: Act 1

1. The first time you will encounter Shadowheart in Baldur’s Gate 3 will be aboard the Nautiloid as the game begins. Use your Illithid powers to save her and accept her into your party.
2. Once the ship crashes, you will find her near the coast. Do not take the item she has on her and continue to keep her in your party to gain her approval.
3. As you progress through the game, there will come a point where you will have to save Druid’s Grove. Gain a significant amount of approval from Shadowheart before saving Druid Grove.
4. Once Druid Grove is saved and everyone is in camp, approach Shadowheart and choose the following prompts:

• Tieflings?
• Are you worried Shar won’t approve?
• I’d be glad to. (if she asks to share a drink)
• I’ll find you after everyone’s turned in for the night.

5. Finally, once the conversation is over, head to bedroll after which you will have the option to either sleep alone or with Shadowheart. Picking Shadowheart will finally end the romantic scene with Shadowheart in Act 1.

Shadowheart romance progression: Act 2

The pivotal moment for Shadowheart’s romance in Act 2 revolves around your decision regarding the Nightsong. Depending on whether you spare or kill the Nightsong, the path of your relationship with Shadowheart will diverge in two different way.

Aligning with Selûne

If you decide to spare the Nightsong, Shadowheart’s storyline will align with Selûne after which you will notice that Shadowheart has changed her hair color mentioning that she wanted to try something new in Selûne’s honor.

Support her decision by saying that you love it which will trigger a kiss scene with Shadowheart.

Aligning with Shar

If you choose to kill the Nightsong, Shadowheart’s storyline will align with Shar. After this, Shadowheart will change her hairstyle, which she will explain is closer to Lady Shar’s style. Similar to Selûne, compliment her look to deepen your relationship with Shadowheart.

In Act 3 of Baldur’s Gate 3, your journey to romancing Shadowheart continues, culminating in significant and emotionally charged scenes that depend on the path you chose for her in Act 2.

Aligning with Selûne

• After finishing Shadowheart’s Companion Quest, look for an exclamation point over her head indicating she wants to talk.
• After speaking to her, she will mention feeling the Shadowfell presence making her feel unclean. Reply with “So what do you want to do about it?”
• She will then ask for your help and will bring you to the beach.
• She will then ask you to get in the water and you can reply with “There’s easier ways to get me naked, you know” or “You first.”
• This will then lead to a romantic scene with Shadowheart in the water.

Aligning with Shar

• After finishing Shadowheart’s Companion Quest, look out for an exclamation point over her head and talk to her.
• She will talk about the upcoming battle and the possibility of not having another night like this. Choose any option for the first prompt and then select the following: “Why me?” and “As you wish.”
• After the conversation, proceed to your bedroll to trigger the next scene with her.
• She will then ask for your help and take you to an Idol of Selûne.
• Use the following dialogues one after the other: “What’s that? More wine?”, “Not at all. So now we feast?”, “Kiss her.”
• This will then lead to a kissing scene with Shadowheart with the camera panning to the statue of Selûne to end the scene.
