Battlefield is gearing up to take the crown of destruction king, with a new job posting pointing toward an explosive return to the franchise’s glory days of destruction galore.
The Battlefield series is one of FPS’ most storied franchises. Aside from its slower and more “realistic” style of play, at its peak, the FPS was known for its absurd destruction mechanics, letting players transform the “battlefield” into their virtual playground.
However, recent entries have severely toned down the destruction mechanics. For example, in Battlefield 2042, players can still destroy in-game environments, but the amount of destructibility is way less than what previous entries delivered, leaving players thoroughly frustrated.
It seems EA and DICE are looking to return to the ways of old, with a new job posting indicating the next entry will deliver the “most realistic destruction effects in the industry.”

The news comes from a recent job posting on EA’s site found via Tech4Gamers. The publisher is looking for a VFX Director for Ripple Effect, an “evolution to DICE LA,” to build ” community-first experiences through continuous innovation and boundary-breaking technology.”

The most exciting part of the description is this line: “We are looking for a Senior 3D Artist like you to help us create the most realistic and exciting destruction effects in the industry. “
Fans of Battlefield will likely be glad to see this shift in direction since the latest entry missed the mark for multiple reasons. Returning to its destructible roots may be a step in the right direction and a sign of commitment to correcting the ship’s course.
Remember that this is also part of EA’s plan, as the developer aims to create a connected universe with Battlefield. Back in Septemeber 2022, EA outlined the future of the series with multiple studios aiming to deliver that shared universe.
