Hip-hop artist Drake placed a sizable bet ahead of the Anthony Joshua vs. Francis Ngannou match – but fans are already calling out his infamous ‘Drake Curse.’
Drake posted a screenshot of his $600k bet on former UFC champion Francis Ngannou on Instagram.
It would net him nearly $2 million if the MMA star upsets former boxing champion Anthony Joshua on March 8.
News of the wager immediately caught fire on social media as fans began mentioning Drake’s long history of failed sports bets over the years.
A history of the ‘Drake Curse’
From his home country team the Toronto Raptors to his favorite college basketball squad the Kentucky Wildcats, Drake has a long history of ‘cursing’ those that he places wagers on.
Perhaps the most infamous instance came in the 2015-16 NBA season when Drake bet on the 73-9 Golden State Warriors to win the NBA Finals.
As fans know, the Warriors would go on to blow a 3-1 lead in the finals to LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
As for his history with combat sports wagers, Drake was on the wrong side of history for the Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov scrum.

Now, it’s up to Ngannou to reverse the curse and make good on Drake’s belief in him.
Or, as some have suggested on social media, maybe Drake is actually putting a ‘reverse jinx’ on Joshua. It wouldn’t be the first time he’s tried to reverse the ‘curse.’
Joshua is a proven star in the boxing world. He’s a two-time unified World Heavyweight Champion with a 27-3 professional record.
Ngannou is a former UFC Heavyweight Champion known for his trademark power. He currently fights for the Professional Fighters League.
Joshua and Ngannou will meet in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in a ten-round bout with a sold-out crowd of passionate fans.
Drake is banking on Ngannou’s power to shine through. It instantly will become one of the biggest upsets in recent memory if Joshua loses.
