PlayStation’s review of its top downloads for October 2018 revealed that Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 has beaten out Rockstar’s latest title, Red Dead Redemption 2, for the number one spot.
This development may come as a surprise, as Read Dead Redemption 2 saw the single largest opening weekend in entertainment history; the title actually beat out Black Ops 4’s $500 million revenue in retail sell-through during its first five days, weighing in at over $725 million.

Additionally, Red Dead Redemption 2 holds the record for the most day-one sales over the PlayStation Network, as well as being the most pre-ordered game ever on PSN, to boot.

However, it looks like analysts’ earlier predictions that BO4 might outsell Red Dead Redemption are coming true; perhaps taking advantage of its early release date, BO4 was projected to beat out the Wild West title in a series of reports in July, and is likewise set to topple sales for DICE’s upcoming Battlefield V.

However, Black Ops 4’s $500 million reportedly didn’t impress investors, despite the game doubling sales records of WW2 on PC.

BO4’s wide broadcasts over Twitch during its beta stages may have also boosted its popularity, as well as its foray into the Battle Royale genre, thanks to its Blackout mode.
Other titles taking top spots in PlayStation’s October downloads include the likes of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, FIFA 19, Marvel’s Spider-Man, and even Bandai’s Soul Calibur VI.
