Set to release on October 25, Call of Duty franchise, has got the community riled up after the announcement of an exclusive mode.
Following a public beta that was met with much praise from pro players and streamers alike, Infinity Ward’s first addition to the Call of Duty series since Infinite Warfare, was seemingly on a smooth path to release.
Through Sony’s ‘State of Play’ broadcast on September 24, it was subtly announced after a bombastic campaign trailer, that the popular Special Ops mode would be making a return to the franchise, but with an upsetting twist.
Teased at the conclusion of the campaign trailer for Modern Warfare, developers Infinity Ward showed the very first footage for the returning Spec Ops mode. A fan favorite game type in the series, Spec Ops in series past has been a slew of single-player or cooperative missions and survival-based challenges.
In the 2019 release of Modern Warfare, it was announced that the Spec Ops Survival mode will be a timed exclusive for the PlayStation 4 platform.

With the series being known for annual releases, this exclusive window essentially means that the Spec Ops Survival mode will be locked for Xbox and PC gamers all the way through until the release of the next Call of Duty title.
The Call of Duty community have voiced displeasure at the announcement, as with the inclusion of unprecedented cross-play throughout the beta, players were assuming that the days of exclusivity for the franchise were well in the past.
Reacting angrily to the news in a specific thread, Reddit user ‘BxLee’ has even gone as far as to say that “I’m done with the franchise I think.” Similarly, Reddit user ‘J2theP30’ couldn’t believe the announcement, baffled in saying “wait it’s legit 1 full year exclusive…what.”
Announced through the State of Play livestream, we also got our very first look at the upcoming single-player campaign which sees return of fan favourite character Captain Price.
