Former Call of Duty world champion Christopher ‘Parasite’ Duarte led ‘No Mercy’ to their first win in the Modern Warfare CDC Season. Here’s how the event unfolded.
CDL Los Angeles had its mix of ups and downs, with OpTic Gaming Los Angeles finally leaving their woeful start behind them, after making it to Sunday’s single-elimination bracket. Atlanta FaZe were looking at going back-to-back after their dominant showing at their home series event, but Minnesota RØKKR had other ideas — ultimately taking them down in the semifinals.
Their final boss? Dallas Empire. After a shaky second match against FaZe in groups, Empire seemed a different squad on championship Sunday and played flawlessly to earn their first tournament win of the season. But what happened on the other side of the fence? Let’s take a look.
After preventing Team Singularity winning their third Challengers event of the season at CDC Paris, Team WaR were looking to pick-up consecutive tournament wins in the City of Angels.
However, after a narrow 3-2 win over Rebel Esports in Winner’s Round 3, Singularity were waiting in the wings. The all-English squad were out to avenge their double-series loss in the Grand Final of CDC Paris.
Showing no mercy, Singularity walked through WaR in dominant fashion, taking the series 3-1. Talking of No Mercy, Parasite and co. were putting in the work on the opposite side of the bracket, successfully defeating Sicario and Encrypted Gaming to earn their spot in the Winner’s Bracket Final.
Not bad for a team that just barely made the roster lock, with a stand-in no less. Singularity were primed to spoil the party and end No Mercy’s hot streak in the Winner’s Final.

In the Loser’s Round 7, Encrypted saw off Team WaR to a fourth-place finish; securing their spot in the top three.
Parasite and co. made light work of the British champs, taking the series 3-1 and booking their place in the Grand Final. Encrypted fell short to the English squad in the Loser’s Final, bowing out of the competition in the third spot.
With a rematch on the cards in the City of Angels, Parasite mustered up all of his championship-winning experience and led his team to a convincing 3-0 win to take the whole event without dropping a series.

Of course, this was a significant win for Parasite, whose efforts this year on the amateur circuit have not gone unnoticed. However, with the majority of the roster flocking back to their respective nests, Duarte now finds himself as a free agent for the next CDC event.
The next Challengers Open event will take place on March 21-22, where Toronto Ultra will host a list of teams who will be competing for their share of the $10,000 prize pool.
