Could the Call of Duty: Blackout beta be returning? [UPDATED]

Update: Unfortunately, it has been confirmed that the Blackout beta will not be returning anytime before Black Ops 4’s launch on October 12.

Rumors are circulating that the massively popular Call of Duty: Blackout beta could be making a return on Thursday, September 20, based on hints given by some popular streamers.

The Blackout beta was live between September 10 and September 17, and gave players a chance to get their hands on the brand new battle royale mode that will be making its debut in Black Ops 4.

The beta was a massive success, with fans and streamers alike saying how impressed they were. Now, it seems like a couple of major Twitch streamers may be dropping hints that we haven’t seen the last of Blackout before Black Ops 4 officially releases on October 12.

All of the streamers who have hinted at the return of the beta are involved in the ‘Doritos Bowl’, a Blackout event being held at Twitchcon on October 27. While this doesn’t confirm that the beta is returning, it could perhaps add some legitimacy to the rumours.

Shroud was playing PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds with fellow streamer Chad Goff on September 19 when he said “Blackout tomorrow, woo!” before quickly backtracking by repeating “No, no.” while Chad questioned the statement.

Elsewhere, rock band Avenged Sevenfold announced on Twitter that the new music video for their song ‘Mad Hatter’ would be exclusively premiering on Dr. DisRespect’s stream on September 20. While this would line up with Shroud’s comment, it’s worth noting that ‘Mad Hatter’ was made specifically for Black Ops 4s Zombies mode, and the Doc is also set to host a PUBG tournament on the same day.

Another popular streamer in the form of Jake “ChocoTaco” Throop dropped a hint recently that he didn’t think fans had seen the last of the Blackout beta. When a fan in his chat stated “This is it, no more betas,” the Chicago native replied by saying “Uh, Just wait and see about that, I would say”.

Of course, all of these hints are far from concrete, and we may not see the return of the Blackout beta before the mode launches with the full Black Ops 4 game on October 12.
