During Day One of the Call of Duty Pro League play-in qualifier, FaZe Clan had to do battle with their sister squad – FC Black.
The play-in qualifier kicked off on January 16 at the MLG Studios in Columbus, Ohio, with the teams who finished outside of the automatic qualifying spots for Pro League at CWL Vegas, throwing down.
A number of top names who underperformed at the first event of the season, including 100 Thieves, FaZe and Team Envy, are all in action in Columbus. FaZe kicked off their qualifying run against FC Black – a roster that was picked up by the FaZe Clan organization just prior to CWL Vegas.
The gap between the two teams showed as FaZe Clan took the best of five series in three games.
FC Black joined up with FaZe just before CWL Vegas.
The senior squad secured a 250-75 victory on Seaside Hardpoint, a 6-2 win in Search and Destroy on Gridlock before picking up a 3-1 win in Control on the same map behind a huge effort from their newest player, Cellium. The 18-year-old had not taken part in a LAN event before this but that didn’t matter as FaZe swept the series to give themselves a winning start to the qualifiers.

The youngster showed just why teams were desperate to add him to their rosters with a ridiculous 31-8 first game where he was able to secure a full set of killstreaks in his first life in the Hardpoint start to the series.
However, it was not completely plain sailing for FaZe Clan. In their second series of the day, they fell to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Enigma 6. It was better news for FC Black as they were able to secure a 3-1 victory over Project 18.
Following a mixed day one, FC Black found themselves sitting in the bottom two of Pool A – meaning that they will be eliminated from the qualifier if they don’t move up the table.
Both teams will return to action on January 17, with FaZe Clan taking on Project 18 whilst FC Black will play Team Sween later in the day.
