First look at Modern Warfare multiplayer revealed at E3

Infinity Ward

Call of Duty developers Infinity Ward have shared the first-ever look at Modern Warfare multiplayer during the E3 gaming convention.

The hype train for the release of Modern Warfare is well and truly underway, and more information about CoD’s 2019 installment is being made available as the October 25 release date draws nearer.

While it seems that Infinity Ward have regrettably chosen not to show any gameplay at the E3 gaming convention in Los Angeles, they have released new details about the game, including a glimpse at the multiplayer for the first time.

Multiplayer screenshots released

Two high-resolution images were released during Infinity Ward’s panel at E3 on June 11, both of them featuring in-game visuals running on the brand new engine that was built for this game.

The first image shows a player camouflaging in some foliage using the iconic Gillie Suit, aiming down the sights of a suppressed sniper rifle.

Infinity WardThe Gillie Suit has always been an iconic aspect of Modern Warfare multiplayer.

The second image showcases the instantly recognizable Juggernaut suit, holding its devastatingly powerful minigun. When this image was first shown, the developers confirmed that it would also feature in the Spec Ops mode of Modern Warfare.

New gameplay aspects

During the presentation, the developers spoke about some new aspects of the Modern Warfare gameplay, which were added as part of their effort to making the game feel as close as possible to the real world.

The first was a new mechanic allowing gunfire to go through walls, making it much more possible to accidentally hit someone that may be behind a wall.

The second was that there would be both smaller and larger scale battles, such as taking over a base, hills, etc…

While these aspects were confirmed to feature in the campaign, the devs did not say anything about them being in multiplayer, so that remains to be seen.

Infinity WardThe Modern Warfare campaign will apparently be the realest and most controversial CoD story to date.

Characters and story

Speaking further about the campaign, Infinity Ward revealed some of the major characters that would be featuring in the single-player story mode.

The iconic Captain Price will be making his return to the series, although the character in this game will be a “new take on him” that pays tribute to his original self.
