Two new weapons have been added in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare as part of the Season Two content drop, and we’ve got everything there is to know about them so far, from how they function, to images, and how to unlock them.
After the monster Season One release, Modern Warfare fans were eagerly awaiting another similarly sized expansion drop in Season Two. Infinity Ward certainly delivered, adding new operators, maps, weapons, and much more.
Among the new release were two new weapons, the Grau 5.56 assault rifle, and the Striker 45 submachine gun, both of which are remakes of popular guns from earlier Call of Duty titles like Black Ops II and Modern Warfare 2.
Just as Activision promised at the beginning of the Modern Warfare cycle, and delivered on last season, both these new weapons are available to all players for free simply by leveling up this season’s new Battle Pass.
Players who don’t want to grind can also instantly obtain one or both of these guns by purchasing their way up the Battle Pass to each gun’s specific Tier.
Grau 5.56 assault rifle
According to its official description, the Grau 5.56 is a “modular 5.56 weapon platform,” known for being “lightweight and maneuverable, with exceptional range.” The in-game description also suggested it has “extreme potential.”
The Grau appears to be a variant of Black Ops II’s SWAT-556 Assault Rifle, which boasted a high rate of fire, and only moderate recoil. Considering rifles have been popular choices so far in Modern Warfare, the 5.56 should fit right in.

As for how to unlock it, the returning Black Ops weapon is available upon reaching Tier 15 of the Season 2 Battle Pass’ free content stream, meaning you don’t have to purchase the premium pass to unlock this weapon.

Striker 45 SMG
Activision describes the Striker 45 as a “hard-hitting submachine chambered in .45 auto that will shred at longer distances than other weapons in its class.” The description also suggests the SMG will have a “moderate rate of fire,” so players can keep its high-impact damage under control.
While the Grau 5.56 is a tweaked Black Ops weapon, the Striker 45 is basically a straight copy from the massively-popular Modern Warfare 2 submachine gun, the UMP45 SMG, which we hinted could be coming in our 5 classic CoD weapons Modern Warfare could add in Season 2.
Most players should be able to unlock this weapon over the course of Season 2, but it may take a little bit of a grind considering the returning SMG is lying in wait all the way at Level 31 of the free portion of the Battle Pass.
Faster ways of unlocking the two new weapons
While grinding the game and leveling up the Battle Pass is one way of unlocking the two new weapons, there are alternative methods that are faster, albeit not free.
One way is to buy the Battle Pass Bundle, which instantly unlocks the first 20 Tiers, and, with it, the Grau 5.56. You can then purchase the remaining 11 Tiers to the second weapon at $1.50 each, and acquire the Striker 45.
There is also, of course, the option to just purchase the whole Battle Pass outright, which would cost about $150 but would unlock all of the Tiers and rewards at once, including these two guns.
