The 2022 Call of Duty Championship weekend started with a bang. All four opening matchups went the distance, two of which ended with round 11 showdowns.
A server outage delayed the second match between the Boston Breach and the Los Angeles Thieves for more than an hour but once the action got underway, it proved to be worth the wait.
Friday’s matches didn’t offer as much in the way of close games, with Toronto Ultra comfortably seeing off Boston, while LA Thieves backed up their “overrated” comments and destroyed a lackluster OpTic.
Elsewhere, FaZe rose to knock Seattle into the Losers bracket and London Royal Ravens went home following a narrow defeat to NYSL.

After Seattle dispatched of Toronto in a quickfire 3-1, another delay affected the highly-anticipated OpTic vs NYSL matchup after the GreenWall took a 2-0 lead. Once things got ironed out, OpTic sent the Subliners packing with a swift 3-0.
FaZe suffered a setback in their bid to repeat as Champs, failing into the losers bracket after losing 3-1 to LA Thieves. They’d ultimately play Seattle in the Losers Bracket finals after the Surge dominated OpTic in a 3-1 series.
Atlanta held strong against the Surge’s tidal wave, winning 3-1 and securing a rematch with LA in the Grand Finals.
Their momentum was shortlived, however. They went 4-0 down in the Grand Final to LA Thieves, struggling to get anything going and simply being outclassed by Thieves, even in the hardpoint maps where they got off to much stronger starts.
The foundations of a comeback started, bringing it back to 4-2 in the series, before they failed to close out on Tuscan Search and Destroy, failing to close out the map from a 5-3 lead and handing LA Thieves the map and series wins, as well as the Championship trophy.
