Call of Duty dataminers seem to have found confirmation of Modern Warfare 2 Remastered in the game files of the most recent Modern Warfare update.
Modern Warfare 2 has long been a fan-favorite in the Call of Duty franchise, and rumors of a remastered edition of the game coming to next-gen consoles have been thrown around for years, though they’ve definitely heated up throughout the latter half of 2019 and 2020.
Now, dataminers appear to have found concrete proof that a remastered version of the Modern Warfare 2 campaign is on its way, thanks to artwork found in Modern Warfare’s game files.
Reddit user MrEarthboundFan found an image of the Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered artwork, bringing back the iconic MW2 cover art with the accompanying “Campaign Remastered” text slotting nicely beneath it.
This is, so far, the most clear-cut leak that something big is in the works from Infinity Ward, and EarthboundFan even provided some additional details on content coming to the game. Another user, Senescallo, showed off a Ghost Oil Rig cosmetic bundle, bringing back Ghost’s original Modern Warfare 2 design to the current title.
It’s also suggested that players who buy the game will receive the Underwater Demo Team Classic Ghost Bundle, though it’s not yet clear what exactly this entails.
The Ghost cosmetics bundle features a new outfit, weapon skins and more to showcase Ghost as we all remember him, as the hardened veteran in MW2.

As you can see below, the M4A1 assault rifle will get a new look inspired by TF141 – one of the playable teams in Modern Warfare 2.
The full list of cosmetic items that are to be available in the rumored Oil Rig bundle are:
- UDT Ghost (Legendary Operator skin)
- Task Force (Legendary M4A1)
- One for One (Legendary 1911)
- Free Dive (Rare Charm)
- Belly Flop (Epic Ghost Finishing Move)
- Stay Frosty (Epic Ghost Operator Quip)
- No Easy Days (Epic Animated Calling Card)
- Ghost (Rare Emblem)
According to the leaks, the bundle will be priced at 10,000 COD Points, but that figure includes the game. Whether this is the price at launch or simply a placeholder remains to be seen.
Though a lot of hints and leaks have come out so far, this one is by far the most believable, and will surely get fans riled up over the idea of revisiting the iconic campaign once again.
Although there are no nods to the idea of the multiplayer being remastered, Senescallo also revealed a whole bunch of new details on Modern Warfare season 3, including changes to Warzone and some iconic Modern Warfare maps being redesigned for the current title.
Though we do not have a date yet, it looks like Modern Warfare 2 Remastered is going to be coming sooner rather than later.
