Call of Duty developers Infinity Ward and publishers Activision have finally released the trailer for the multiplayer side of things in Modern Warfare, along with the schedule for the game’s open beta.
The world stood still in the Call of Duty community on August 1 for the highly-anticipated global reveal event of Modern Warfare multiplayer, giving players what they had been starving for.
The developers had kept largely mum on multiplayer since MW was officially announced back on May 31, but with the game less than three months away from release, it was time for them to finally spill the beans.
The presentation started, as per usual, with the debut of the multiplayer trailer, which showcased the game’s weapons, mechanics, killstreaks, and other aspects in one entertaining compilation of intense highlights.
Modern Warfare open beta dates announced
In addition to the trailer, and the flurry of other news and announcements, Activision also confirmed that there would be a beta session for players to try out MW prior to its release.
Unlike previous years, the beta will be open to everyone on all platforms, meaning that players will not be required pre-order the game to gain access.
However, there will be an exclusive beta session held for those that do pre-order the game, meaning that buying ahead of time does still have its perks.

Additionally, since Sony’s exclusivity agreement with Activision is still in effect, those on the PlayStation 4 will get to try out the beta earlier than their counterparts on the Xbox One and PC.
That said, here is the full schedule for the Modern Warfare multiplayer open beta:
- PlayStation 4 Exclusive Beta
- September 12 – 13 (Early Access, PlayStation 4)
- September 14 – 16 (Open Beta, PlayStation 4)
- Beta featuring crossplay testing
- September 19 – 20 (Early Access, PC and Xbox One; Open Beta, PlayStation 4)
- September 21 – 23 (Open Beta, PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox One)
As noted in the schedule, the second session of beta testing will also feature cross-play for the first time, giving players the chance to try out the game’s cross-platform capabilities.
MW will be the first Call of Duty title in the franchise’s long history to support cross-play, meaning players on all three major platforms will be able to play together and against each other.
