Since an update in early February, some Call of Duty: Modern Warfare players have started to experience a very strange bug with care packages, literally dying as they touch them.
Killstreaks – as opposed to scorestreaks – have made a return with this latest installment in the popular FPS franchise, bringing back a reward system that has not been in the game for nearly a decade.
One of these killstreaks is the fabled Care Package, which drops users one random killstreak, anything from a UAV to a juggernaut. Now, though, some players are unable to even open their care packages, as they get killed as soon as they’re close enough.
While care packages can often be an exciting way to help you rack up kills (or be severely disappointed when you only get a Personal Radar), Reddit user MineRaid was less than impressed as he slid to pick up his random reward but didn’t even get the chance to try it.
Raid slides at the care package and dies immediately, as soon as he touches it. Having taken the time to wait for it, and losing a couple of teammates in the process, his team was really relying on a good pull from the package to give them some hope.
They were 4-2 down in the map, playing Cyber Attack, meaning his life – and the streak in the care package – could have been really helpful in mounting a comeback and helping the team secure the win.

His teammate was left in a 1v5, left with pretty much no hope, dropping as he rushed to revive Raid.
Obviously, as Cyber Attack is a round-based gamemode, the care package was gone before Raid or his teammates could use its reward to save the game.
It’s not known whether they won the map but, at 5-2 down and seemingly without luck on their side, we can presume it didn’t go their way in the end.
Every game has its bugs, and major AAA titles such as Call of Duty will also be held to a higher standard despite being a victim to how these bugs work just as much as any other game.
That said, bugs like these – that can literally ruin someone’s game – will likely need to be addressed sooner rather than later.
