Modern Warfare 3 players are questioning the effectiveness of the game’s RICOCHET anti-cheat system after CDL pro Skyz lost a ranked game against an opponent with 91 kills.
MW3 has come under heavy criticism from the community over the last few months due to its lack of protection from hackers and cheaters. Both players and content creators alike have called out Activision for the anti-cheat’s inability to catch its intended targets.
The most recent development came when a video surfaced from a cheating Discord server that demonstrated their cheats will turn off as soon as RICOCHET begins “investigating” the player’s account – which makes it next to impossible to catch those who are cheating with the program, alone.
Pro players are also seeing the effects of these cheaters in their ranked matches. When not practicing with their teams, many pros will take to ranked to get extra reps in. However, cheaters run rampant in ranked, which ultimately ruins the experience for everyone.
MW3 anti-cheat under fire after 91 kill game
While streaming his ranked games, pro player and recent World Champion winner Skyz became subject to an obvious cheater on the enemy team. Not only was Skyz able to get just six kills, but his opponent ranked up almost 100 kills against his team during a Hardpoint match.

“If RICOCHET doesn’t catch that,” said one Reddit commenter, “It doesn’t exist.”
Others beneath the post also pointed out that another user on the enemy team was also cheating. The player, who only had 57 kills in comparison to their teammate’s 91, had “TikTok” as their clan tag. Upon further investigation, it appeared the player was advertising the cheating Discord on their page.
“So many easy ways to detect this,” said another user. “Headshot percentage, accuracy, bullet penetration hit markers, spm, k/d. You mean to tell me they don’t have the systems in place to catch blatantly obvious outliers like these guys rage hacking?”
While Activision claims that the system is working and that they have banned thousands of cheaters with it, players are still feeling the effects of these hackers. No further action has been taken by the developers to come up with new ways to remove these cheaters from the game.
