Just as rumors of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare 2 started to circulate, they seem to have been put to bed by an ex-Call of Duty developer. With this in mind, could Modern Warfare 4 be on the horizon?

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare was 2016’s best-selling game, but it doesn’t look like we’ll be getting a sequel to the disappointment of a lot of fans. Robert Bowling, a former Call of Duty developer tweeted a fan “You will never get Infinite Warfare 2”.
Furthermore, Bowling did confirm that “you’re getting a Modern shooter this year, don’t worry” – but didn’t specify if he was referring to the Call of Duty franchise, but fans reckon he could be referring to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.
Infinite Warfare is a sci-fi shooter and with the futuristic feel of the other current shooting games, an MW4 set in modern times would be welcomed by a lot of the COD fan base. With Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 currently Activision’s priority, rumors of Modern Warfare 4 may also indicate the return of a single player mode.
In January, job listings at Infinity Ward also suggested that a single player campaign mode would be returning, as well as making frequent mention of “next gen” technology.
Modern Warfare 3 was the last title in the Call of Duty series that Bowling was involved with, before leaving Infinity Ward.
You will NEVER get Infinite Warfare 2.

Regarding this MW4 news, Gaming Intel claims that “a campaign is already being worked on” as well as “the customary Call of Duty Multiplayer experience and the return of its Zombies mode.”
They also stated that “Battle Royale was being discussed for Modern Warfare 4, but at that point, it was merely discussions,”.

Battle Royale
Arguably the biggest success of COD: Black Ops 4 has been Call of Duty’s debut into battle royale space. The map used in Blackout (the name of COD’s BR mode) is comprised of previous maps from Black Ops games.
Due to its success, it would seem likely that MW4 would follow in suit whereby previous maps from classic Modern Warfare games would feature in an increasingly likely battle royale mode.
With MW2 being an all-time favorite, if some of these maps were to be included, it would almost certainly challenge for the accolade of being the most popular battle royale game.
The above leak also came at an interesting time. Members of Infinity Ward who left for Respawn returned at the time of this leak. This furtherns the rumor of a potential Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.
