Warzone guru Metaphor reassured fans that sniper rifles will once again be viable in Modern Warfare 3, thanks to new weapon profiles.
Infinity Ward announced that MW2 weapon progression, operator skins, and weapon blueprints will move over to Modern Warfare 3 as part of the Carry Forward program. This means players will keep their leveled-up weapons and attachments.
Warzone content creator WhosImmortal argued that MW2 weapons won’t be as effective in MW3 because the devs will want players to pay more attention to the new weapons.
Fellow streamer Metaphor pushed back against that claim and made a case for why MW2 guns will hold their own.
Metaphor explains why MW2 weapons will be viable in MW3
After playing Warzone at COD Next, Metaphor confirmed that sniper rifles would once again be able to one-shot kill enemies in Modern Warfare 3. But similar to Caldera, there will reportedly be a range limit on how far you can one-shot kill someone.
In WZ2, High-Velocity ammunition only made the VIctus XMR, FJX Imperium, and MCPR-300 one-shot kill weapons. The other snipers fell out of favor with Warzone players, without the ability to one-shot kill enemies.

Thankfully, Metaphor believes there is a “really good chance” MW2 snipers like the SP-X 80 and LA-B 330 will be sped up and changed to one-shot kill weapons in MW3’s Warzone iteration.
To back up his claim, Metaphor spoke about JGOD, claiming that Sledgehammer told him directly that: “There is a completely new weapon profile they can attach to these guns that changes them to the MW3 profiles.
The YouTuber isn’t quite sure what that entails, but hopes that this makes weapons such as the SPX and other weapons quicker.
It was impossible to tell during the MW3 beta, as MW2 weapons weren’t available. We will better understand how the meta shakes out when Modern Warfare 3’s Warzone expansion releases later this year.
