Warzone’s worst gun, the Sidewinder, is actually proving to be meta these days after going through a round of buffs in Season 2 – but there is still a bit of an asterisk over it.
When Modern Warfare 3 first launched, players were quick to explore the new Armory Unlocks options. These unlocks allow you to access certain weapons, pieces of equipment, and attachments without the need to level up – you just complete a set number of challenges instead.
At first, the Sidewinder proved to be a pretty popular choice with players, but it quickly went downhill. Newer players were warned against unlocking the battle rifle because of its recoil and kick, as well as its not-so-great bullet velocity.
However, both of those have been buffed in recent updates, and Warzone guru WhosImmortal believes it is now a meta option in the battle royale – even if there are still some concerns.
MW3 Sidewinder is meta in Warzone after Season 2 buffs
“The thing was utterly useless for the first few months of Warzone and then it got some buffs and they’ve continued buffing it with recent updates,” the YouTuber said in his February 22 video. “Now it is in a place where if you know what you’re doing with it, and you can consistently hit shots, the thing actually works – believe it or not.”

As per TrueGameData stats, the Sidewinder has a comparable TTK to the RAM-7 and MTZ-762 in the first 20 meters, and it becomes “absolutely crazy” if you manage to work in headshots, thanks to its multiplier.
The knock on the rifle is that you’re limited to a 30-round magazine and you cannot use the conversion kit as you have to go all in on the buffing its control.
- Muzzle: Tempus GH50
- Barrel: Tempus Predator Precision
- Underbarrel: Bruen Heavy Support
- Optic: Corio Eagleseye 2.5x
- Magazine: 30-round drum
It isn’t just Warzone where the Sidewinder has been getting some love either. The battle rifle has been viable in multiplayer for a few weeks, but it hasn’t fully taken off in the battle royale.
If it does become a popular option again then it’ll be quite the story for the Sidewinder, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
