Dedicated Call of Duty players invest countless hours honing their skills, yet some resort to less ethical methods, such as using a Cronus Zen. But what is a Cronus Zen, and does employing it in Call of Duty: Warzone and Modern Warfare 3 constitute cheating?

For all of Warzone’s strengths, the popular battle royale game has had a difficult history with cheaters. This unfortunate fate is practically inevitable with it being so popular and free to play.

To combat the issue, Activision invested in an advanced kernel-level anti-cheat named Ricochet. Ricochet monitors in-game analytics to identify suspicious behavior and has proved effective at reducing cheating in Call of Duty.

Luckily, Cronus Zen’s are now detectable by Ricochet since April 2023, with it being labeled a third-party hardware/software which gives players an unfair advantage.

But in spite of its ban, it’s best to know what is a Zen, and how it works.

What is a Cronus Zen and how does it work in CoD MW3 & Warzone?

The Cronus Zen is a device that allows users to use macros and digitally modify their controllers on most platforms. It can be used with the majority of controllers and potentially allow players to gain an unfair advantage.

Once connected, players run scripts via their Cronus which can range greatly. While it does have some use for accessibility and single-player games, it is best known for cheating in competitive titles like Modern Warfare 3 & Warzone.

Some examples of the cheats that the Cronus Zen enables include increased aim assist, rapid-fire mods, and even zero recoil macros. However, there are thousands of scripts players can download to their Cronus Zen, meaning cheats can take all kinds of forms.

The biggest difference between the Cronus Zen and traditional cheat software like an aimbot is that the Zen changes your controller rather than the game being played. This can make it harder to detect although Activision has said that Ricochet is capable of detecting devices like the Zen.

Although, the Zen’s original purpose was meant as an emulator to allow greater accessibility for players with different controllers and needs, however, has since evolved past that.
