The popular Blackout battle royale mode in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is in store for some major changes coming soon.

David Vonderhaar, Studio Design Lead at Treyarch, took to social media on November 27 to discuss some of the things that the studio was working on for Blackout.

Vonderhaar and Treyarch have made it clear that Blackout is an ever-evolving project and that the version of the mode at game’s release is just a base for what’s to come.

In his social media discussion, Vondy mentioned several things, including weapon camos, map updates, audio improvements, more levels, and changes to Armor.

Weapon camos have been something that players have been asking for since Blackout was in its beta testing phase. According to Vondy, the development team is “WORKING ON IT RIGHT NOW,” so players can expect to see them sooner rather than later.

The popular weapon camos that are in Multiplayer may soon be coming to Blackout as well.

As for audio fixes and improvements, he said that there is an action plan in place, but described audio as a complex aspect of the game and so it may take some time.

“As much as I wish it was as simple as adjusting the mix, these kinds of problems have to be tackled from many angles,” he tweeted. The tweet below contains a thread in which he goes into details about the state of audio.

In terms of increasing player echelon levels in Blackout, Vonderhaar said that there is a “full design waiting to go” but there is no schedule or timetable for releasing it yet.

He alludes to there being longer lead-time for it because of the asset requirement, but that it will happen “eventually.” The current echelon level cap in Blackout is 80, which is called the Battle Hardened Echelon.

As for map updates, Vonderhaar reveals that there are changes coming to the Blackout map, although he did not reveal any further details other than saying that he’s played it.

In an individual post on Twitter, Treyarch has already announced that they are looking at making changes to the current map instead of making a brand new map.

The Blackout map hasn’t changed since the game released on October 12, but updates are on the way.

Last but not least, Armor. Arguably the most polarizing and talked-about thing in Blackout, Armor is once again in store for a change, although it’s something that has been alluded to before.

According to Vondy, Treyarch are already in the process of creating a system which would allow players to repair their Armor using pieces of Armor from players they eliminate.

There is no timetable for the release of this feature yet since there is a long and complex process before it can be considered game-ready.
