Activision have hinted that a remastered Call of Duty could be in the pipeline along with their 2020 release, but what classic remake can we expect?
With Treyarch rumored to be at the helm of Call of Duty’s next release, plenty are looking forward to seeing what David Vonderhaar and co. can produce.
Reports suggest that Treyarch are currently working with Sledgehammer Games to produce a Black Ops prequel, based around the events of the Cold War.

While this might appear obvious – considering that a new title has been released every year since 2005 – there were doubts after Sledgehammer were reportedly cut mid-way through their development cycle.
Moreover, Activision hinted towards the inclusion of a remastered Call of Duty title during their earnings call. But which classic game will Treyarch be looking to push with their game?
Treyarch taking Black Ops to next-gen?

With both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X set to launch during the 2020 holiday season, the next Call of Duty title will need to bridge the gap between both consoles.
On paper, this provides Treyarch with the perfect opportunity to revive the series, by giving fans a reboot of where it all began.
Where’s Modern Warfare 2 remastered?
While fans everywhere are craving a new-generation Modern Warfare 2, Infinity Ward’s opportunity to push out a remake is dwindling away. There was previously lots of rumors, seemingly confirming a remaster of the classic 2009 title.
With Modern Warfare’s series reboot currently dipping its toes into Infinity Ward’s previous releases’ storyline, there is a possibility that the developer might release the Modern Warfare 2 campaign remake as a bolt-on to the single-player embedded into their current title.
Of course, while a remaster could be definitely on the cards, there has been no official announcement on the developer from Activision’s corner at the time of writing. Indeed, there is a possibility that a remastered version of Crash Bandicoot or Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater could be coming to next-gen.
Should Treyarch be steering the ship, it certainly makes sense for a Black Ops remake to make its way onto the next-generation of consoles.
