Buying a brand new Range Rover Sport SVR might sound like a dream scenario for some people, but after hearing YouTuber Archie Hamilton talk about the eyebrow-raising cost of actually having one, you might think twice.
The popular YouTuber, who has over 275,000 subscribers on his channel, can often be seen reviewing some of the hottest vehicles on the market today. On January 5, it was Jaguar Land Rover’s impressive model that took center stage in his video.
With an impressive five-litre V8 petrol engine (575PS), a max speed of 162 mph, and an average 0-60 in around 4.5 seconds, this luxury SUV is at the top of many motor junkie wish lists. However, Archie Hamilton Racing has revealed just how much it will set people back in today’s market and it might scare some people off.
The vehicle itself is priced from £101,810, according to the official Land Rover website, but that’s its sticker price excluding any further accessories that buyers may wish to add to it.
Archie Hamilton Racing reveals in his video, and many before it, that he selected all of those customization options when he bought it, but how much does it cost to own one? “I put in nine grand for finance and I pay £900 per month for that car,” Archie said, before guest Tony stepped in with a breakdown of the figures.
“Let’s tell the viewers, you (Archie) will get your nine grand back because of how you have come in and out of the car, but the general public probably wouldn’t,” Tony explained.

“That would be the depreciation of the car. So, if you had it a couple of years, you would probably get some of the nine grand back because they even themselves back out, but if you changed it in a year, you would probably lose your nine grand and all your payments, so the car has cost you £20,000 for the year.”
Car owners will know, however, that the price of the car is just one part of the puzzle – there’s fuel, insurance, road tax, and servicing to also account for. Running costs will inevitably boost the price up even further than the £20,000 mentioned, which they both agreed was a solid price for a vehicle like this.
Archie continued: “Let’s talk about the other thing, fuel. It does cost around about £100 to fuel it up,” he said, which works out at £400 extra per month if you only fill it up once every seven days. “So, £900 (car) then turns into £1,300.”
After a brief discussion, they agreed that insurance would be around £2,000 and £3,000 per year for those over 25 years of age. Those below that age would pay approximately £3,000 to £5,000, they said.
With an annual service on top, which they agreed would be between £750 and £1,000 to do, as well as road tax and a new set of tires, this car will approximately set members of the general public back a whopping £30,000.
So, if you’re thinking about buying the Range Rover Sport SVR in 2020, that’s around about how much it’s going to cost you according to Archie Hamilton Racing. Other options discussed in the video are financing and leasing, which are also plausible routes, but it’ll cost a pretty penny either way.
