It’s every cosplayer’s dream to get recognition from the creators of the look that inspired their work – but there are very few bigger than Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling.
Harry Potter was, and remains to this day, a global literary phenomenon unlike any we’ve seen in modern times. It inspired a whole generation of readers, writers and, more pertinent here, cosplayers.
Many a fancy-dress party has seen the likes of Harry, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger in attendance, celebrating their love for the franchise – but now one of them has caught JK Rowling’s eye, who gave the best appraisal ever.
On April 15, yosoyklee (real name Kaliyah Danielle) shared her Slytherin look on Twitter, particularly using make-up to full-effect to provide a unique take on the stereotypical Slytherin student.
A mixture of black and gold eyeshadow formed the base of the look, with sinister-looking clouds surrounding one eye, while the other adorned a fantastically-recreated Dark Mark, the tattoo every one of Voldemort’s Death Eaters get inscribed onto their left forearm.
The artwork and combination of black, green and gold caught Rowling’s attention, who told yosoyklee that “Slytherin never looked so good,” the highest of praise she could have received from the best-selling author.

Kaliyah even whipped out a replica Severus Snape wand for the occasion, proving her allegiance to the house of Salazar Slytherin with a homage to the late Hogwarts Headmaster.
It’s not often cosplayers gain recognition from the creators of the inspiration behind their look, so Danielle will no doubt be seriously excited by the praise, especially considering how many Slytherin cosplays Rowling must have seen in her time.
While Harry Potter fans eagerly await more content, spin-off film series Fantastic Beasts will be getting a third installment, with an expected release date of November 12, 2021.
