Popular streamer and former professional Overwatch player Felix ‘xQc’ Lengyel says the game is extremely inaccessible compared to other esports titles.
xQc, who was recently banned from the game and claimed he was ‘done’ playing, compared Blizzard’s title to Valve’s Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, which is a much simpler concept to grasp as a new player or viewer.
Overwatch has been criticised in recent weeks for being difficult to get to grips with as a new player with plenty of veteran players quitting the game and looking elsewhere due to burnout.
xQc, has moved into variety streaming following his recent ban from Overwacth, added to that conversation on a recent stream by comparing Overwatch to CS:GO.
The former Pro stated that if you asked a parent to watch both games, it’s easier to see which one they would be able to follow.
“If you said to your dad, let’s watch a CS:GO game together and he knows nothing about the game, what does he see? He sees a motherfucker shooting an AK, trying to plant a bomb, it’s that easy,” the streamer stated.
“I have a gun, I shoot at you and you can see the enemies. It’s that easy.”

“Put your dad in front of a game of Overwatch and tell him to watch that. A flying monkey with a bubble is shooting across some witch that shoots little air, a purple beam of colours and a bunch of explosions on a moving spaceship.
“For players that play the game, they’ll watch it and like it but it’s extremely inaccessible. And even for the ones who are casual, they don’t want to watch it, they don’t understand it.”
Overwatch is still a popular game as both a casual player and as an esport title but it’s clear to see that frustrations from players is building.
The second season of the Overwatch league begins in February and it’ll be interesting to see if the viewership numbers change – positive or negatively – following all the recent negativity from players.
