Edge Transit was reissued back in Into the Light and quickly became one of the best DPS weapons in Destiny 2, a feat that remains true to this day, especially if you can farm a meta god roll.
The Into the Light update brought back several beloved weapons from Destiny’s history. Initially, the headliners were The Recluse and The Mountaintop, with both having once broken the game in years gone by.
However, after the meta settled, it became apparent that Edge Transit was the gun everyone needed. The Heavy Grenade Launcher was once a meme, but it’s now one of the best heavy weapons in the game. This is thanks to various buffs to Heavy GLs as well as the gun’s powerful perk pool, which rivals the best in the sandbox.
It can be tricky to figure out which perks you need to hunt, though, with Edge Transit having such a stacked perk pool. To help you out, here are the god rolls you’ll want to farm for both PvE and PvP.
Best Edge Transit PvE god roll
- Barrel: Quick Launch
- Magazine: Spike Grenades/Alloy Casing
- Perk 1: Envious Assassin/Cascade Point
- Perk 2: Bait and Switch
- Weapon Mod: Backup Mag
- Origin Trait: Indomitability
Edge Transit was once a meme in the Destiny community thanks to a bug at the launch of Forsaken, which saw the gun dropping far more frequently than it should have. However, it’s no joke this time around, with its stacked perk pool forcing Guardians to go and farm it.
Of these perks, Bait and Switch is the most impactful, providing a massive 30% damage boost that is easy to procc. Given that Heavy GLs are performing so well in the current meta, a DPS boost of that scale allows Edge Transit to output some truly incredible damage.
As for Perk Slot 1, Envious Assassin is the best overall option. It allows Edge Transit to build up a massive magazine, and all you have to do to trigger it is defeat targets and then switch to the Grenade Launcher. With this perk and Backup Mag, it’s possible to load 14 rounds in a single mag, producing some top-tier DPS.
However, if DPS is your only goal, Cascade Point is a great alternative. It speeds up the gun’s rate of fire by 40% after any final blow. More shots in quick succession means more damage; it’s really that simple. This perk can make managing Heavy ammo more difficult, but its effectiveness is undeniable.

Best Edge Transit PvP god roll
- Barrel: Quick Launch
- Magazine: Proximity Grenades
- Perk 1: Impulse Amplifier
- Perk 2: Chain Reaction/Explosive Light
- Weapon Mod: Freehand Grip
- Origin Trait: Indomitability
Cataphract GL3 stands out as by far the best Heavy Grenade Launcher in PvP, but Edge Transit is a great alternative for those who don’t want to grind Trials of Osiris, especially with attunement available in Onslaught again.
Impulse Amplifier is an obvious choice, drastically increasing the velocity of fired projectiles. This pairs well with Quick Launch and Proximity Grenades, making it much easier to lead shots and hit enemies, which is essential given how fast-paced The Crucible can be.
At least for PvP, Perk Slot 2 isn’t great on Edge Transit, with Chain Reaction being your best option. Technically speaking, this can score multiple kills from a single shot, but the likelihood of that happening is pretty low. Even so, it is the best option available, although Explosive Light is a close second and preferred on builds that produce a lot of Orbs of Power.
How to get Edge Transit in Destiny 2
Edge Transit can be obtained by completing runs of Onslaught in the Vanguard playlist. Every 10 rounds, you will receive additional loot, with these drops having the potential to be the Heavy Grenade Launcher.
As of Update 8.0.5, you can attune Edge Transit again, boosting its drop rate to 60% of all weapons received in Onslaught. This is highly recommended for Guardians hunting down their preferred god roll.
