Destiny 2’s 8.0.5 update nerfed rocket jumping on August 6, which has deepened the community’s frustration with the already contentious patch.
For months, Destiny 2’s Mountaintop launcher has allowed players to reach incredible heights by rocket jumping. Such an addition sped up the moment-to-moment action in many ways and, of course, boosted the game’s verticality.
However, the August 6 update nerfed rocket jumping by limiting the acceleration players get when making jumps with The Mountaintop.
According to the community, this “terrible” change has only exacerbated their frustrations with the 8.0.5 update.
A Redditor questioned why Bungie would even implement the change in a post that asks developers to revert the decision. From their perspective, nerfing rocket jumping only hurts speed runners and players who genuinely enjoy the shooter’s mobility.
The player wrote in part, “Such an unnecessary change especially now when player sentiment and morale is literally at the lowest it’s ever been.”

The post boasts more than 1,000 upvotes and has received plenty of attention on the Destiny subreddit, as evidenced by comments agreeing with the original poster.
After all, the weapon and its rocket jumping capabilities are available to all players, so no one’s being disadvantaged. Wrote one confused user in the comments, “Just quite baffling really, Bungie does not like fun lol.”
And some have argued that Bungie should “revert this entire update. It legitimately made the game worse in every way.”
On top of the rocket jumping changes, Destiny 2 8.0.5 includes issues impacting Exotic class item drops and the Graviton Lance’s firing rate. Developers are aware of both issues but have not specified when players can expect permanent fixes to go live.
These troubles come just days after Bungie laid off more than 200 employees, which may affect how the Destiny development team manages its game updates.
