Diablo 4 players can’t help but question why art for the Lunar Awakening event’s free cosmetics also features paid items.
Diablo 4’s Lunar Awakening event launched on February 6 and will continue until February 20. That gives players two weeks to grind through the challenges for a chance to unlock exclusive rewards, including cosmetics, gold, and Greater Awakened Spoils.
Of course, many users especially have their eyes on the various cosmetic rewards. One such prize promises a Magic Wand, the Lunar Scepter. Meanwhile, another comes in the form of a Magic Two-Handed Axe dubbed The Dragon’s Courage.
There’s a bit of confusion surrounding these offerings, though, as six items were promoted as free unlockables. While users will receive their freebies during play, some aren’t happy about the way Blizzard marketed the rewards.
Diablo 4 players call out “sleazy” marketing for event cosmetics
Days ahead of the Lunar Awakening start date, Blizzard showcased the event’s exclusive cosmetic rewards. One image, in particular, featured text noting that players would have the opportunity to unlock “6 different lunar-themed cosmetic rewards.” However, the image showcased eight items.
Reddit user 5al3 called attention to the graphic in a recent post, wherein they highlighted that the photo includes two paid cosmetics. “So this was a f***king lie… Turns out two rewards shown among free event cosmetics are paid after all,” they wrote.

While many agree the imagery sends a confusing message, one person chimed in with, “Actually, they said/say six cosmetics, but you don’t know which of them are these six…”
Even with this in mind, 5al3 wondered why Diablo 4’s free and paid cosmetics were all placed in a graphic promoting free content. “Misleading, scummy, sleazy, cutpurse tactics. Shameful,” the original poster replied.
Others argued that all event-exclusive items should be rewarded at no cost since the game already features paid cosmetics. One person who relayed this thought added, “I’m just not even bothering with the event if they’re gonna piecemeal the cosmetics. That’s so scummy of Blizzard.”
There’s no telling how Blizzard will respond to such critiques with feature seasonal events.
