Want to know how to farm Wrathful Hearts in Diablo 4? Here’s everything you need to know about obtaining the rare resource in Season 1 of Blizzard’s latest ARPG.
There are a lot of rare and powerful items you can acquire in Season 1 of Diablo 4 and Wrathful Hearts are among the most coveted, and thankfully there’s a handy trick you can use to increase their drop rate by 100%.
Wrathful Hearts are a type of Caged Hearts, and these are fairly easy to get as they can be found inside most Malignant Tunnels across the Diablo 4 map. At least three Caged Hearts will drop inside every tunnel but Wrathful Hearts are much rarer and difficult to find.
If you’re wondering exactly how to get Wrathful Heats in the game, here’s everything you need to know.
So how does one get the most Wrathful Hearts to drop in order to land some insanely powerful passive abilities?
How to farm Wrathful Hearts in Diablo 4 Season 1
Farming Wrathful Hearts without an exploit or bug to utilize seems like a monumental task, but since the recent 1.1.1 patch to Diablo 4, most of the well-known exploits have been removed.
There is one farm that can be done using nothing but the implemented mechanics in-game and classic RNG, but it of course will take time. This will not be a quick farm, but it most definitely is worth it for anyone looking to get a better Wrathful Heart slotted into their gear.
First, you will want to put as many Smoldering Ashes as possible into the Urn of Malignance which can be found within the Seasons Blessings tab.
If you are a lower level and do not have any Ashes, don’t worry! You can still perform this farming method, you will just have a reduced chance of getting your hands on the rare Wrathful Hearts.
Once you have the points placed within the Urn of Malignance, you are going to want to head to the Ravening Pit Malignant Tunnel which can be found within Dry Steppes.
You can do this on any of the World Tiers you have available, but of course, the higher the World Tier the better the loot.
Complete the entire dungeon, loot all of the Caged Hearts you can, and complete the Malignant Outgrowth bonus objective at the end of the Tunnel using the corresponding Invoker.
You will want to repeat this process several times, ensuring to stockpile as many Caged Hearts as possible before heading back to Cormond’s workbench. You will then salvage as many of the Caged Hearts as possible. This is to obtain Malignant Ichor, which you will then use to create Invokers of Varshan.

You are given a recipe for the Invoker of Varshan once you complete the main seasonal storyline, Burning from Within. You will then go back to the Ravening Pit and complete the dungeon again, but this time, look for a sealed door next to the Malignant Outgrowth tunnel.
You can only open this door once you have completed the seasonal questline in its entirety. But if you already have the recipe for the Invoker of Varshan, then you’ve already finished the questline.
Open the sealed door, run down the pathway, and enter the area where yet another Malignant Outgrowth will have formed. This is just like the regular outgrowths, though you can only use a specific Invoker of Varshan on these outgrowths.
For World Tier 1 and 2, you will only be able to use a base-level Invoker of Varshan. For Tier 3, you will need a Foul Invoker of Varshan. The recipe for the Foul Invoker of Varshan can be looted off of the World Tier 1 and 2 versions of the Echo of Varshan.
The third and final Invoker is the Tormented Invoker of Varshan. This version of the boss, Tormented Echo of Varshan, can only be found on World Tier 4. To craft the Tormented Invoker, you will have had to loot its recipe off the Foul Echo of Varshan you defeated in World Tier 3.
You can farm Wrathful hearts from the Echoes of Varshan in any World Tier, but again, the higher the Tier, the better the Caged Hearts will be.
Once you have the ability to craft several Foul Invokers of Varshan on Tier 3, you will want to repeat this process over and over again defeating the Foul Echo until you feel ready to take on the Tormented Echo of Varshan.
The Tormented Echo is by far the most difficult out of all of the Echoes – but, once killed, he drops some magnificent loot. All of the gear that is dropped on Tier 4 Varshan is 800+ and if you get lucky, he may drop two Caged Hearts instead of one!
This is not a 100% guaranteed drop rate for Wrathful Hearts, though. Any Echo on any Tier only has a small chance to drop Wrathful Caged Hearts, so be prepared for quite the grind.
