Diretide is back in Dota 2 for the first time since 2020 and there are a bunch of new cosmetics and other treats to enjoy. Here’s everything you need to know about the frigid event in Dota 2.
It’s been a while since the annual Battle Pass release in Dota 2, and Diretide was released on November 3 in the second part of the pass. Making its last appearance in 2020 to celebrate Halloween, this iteration of Diretide was released after the spooky season and features a wintery theme.
With one exclusive Persona and one Arcana as the prime attractions of Diretide, it is safe to say that this is turning into one of the biggest in-game events in Dota 2’s history. Additionally, the recent Swag Bag release has caused thousands of players to return, hitting the game’s highest peak player count for the first time since February 2017.
Having said that, here’s everything you need to know about Diretide in the game.

Dota 2 Diretide 2022 event duration
Diretide 2022 kicked off in Dota 2 on November 3, 2022, and it will be available in the game until January 12, 2023. This means you’ll have just over two months to make the most of the event.
The event is accompanied by a variety of treasures, mini-games, and much more for everyone to enjoy. Additionally, you won’t even have to purchase a second Battle Pass to enjoy Diretide as the event will continue with the ongoing pass from TI11.
Those who chose to not purchase the Battle Pass initially were given a free one by Valve through the Swag Bag feature during TI11. In case you haven’t claimed yours yet, you can do so by playing 10 games of Dota 2 and accessing the Swag Bag.
What is in the Dota 2 Swag Bag?
The Swag Bag is a new feature for Dota 2 fans across the globe. This feature was seen for the first time as a part of the TI11 Battle Pass and could easily be considered a terrific method for Valve to bring back former players to the game. The Swag Bag provides you with three assorted gifts which you can claim as soon as you have a total of 10 matches played since the Battle Pass was released on September 1.
Once you have played 10 matches, you will be able to collect all three of the rewards mentioned below:
- 1-month subscription to Dota Plus.
- Free Level 1 Battle Pass (24 Battle Pass levels for those who already own the Battle Pass).
- 1 free Arcana of your choice (you can only choose from the ones available in the Dota 2 Store).
While the Swag Bag has performed extremely well to bring former players back to the game with a free Arcana, it remains to be seen whether the monthly subscription to Dota Plus, a free Battle Pass, and Diretide will be enough to keep them around for more than 10 matches.

Apart from these two, the Immortal Treasure II will also be released on November 3rd and it remains to be seen which heroes will receive new Immortal-tier cosmetics. Valve also made an announcement during The International 11 to confirm that everyone who reaches level 75 on their battle pass will receive a special Voice Pack featuring Cave Johnson from Portal 2. Leaks have also suggested that the developers could be working on a special terrain which might come as a surprise reveal along with the release of Diretide.

Candyworks and Treasure Emporium
With the release of Diretide, Valve has also introduced the Candyworks Treasure Emporium in Dota 2. This limited-period custom shop in the game will allow you to trade candies in exchange for exquisite cosmetics including the most coveted of Arcanas.
The Candyworks Treasure Emporium features three random cosmetics at any given point in time. Having said that, you can opt for alternative cosmetics from the store either by trading items already available in the store or by using the re-roll feature – but you will only get a limited number of re-rolls every week, so make sure to use them wisely.
On top of all these, Diretide has also presented a brand new Cavern Crawl map with three unique new styles for you to unlock for the existing bundles from the first half of the Battle Pass. With The International 11 concluding with Tundra Esports lifting the Aegis, it is now time for the community to enjoy Diretide in its full glory.
