Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC has a hefty price tag. Surprisingly, prospective players aren’t at all deterred.
Rise Tarnished. Elden Ring DLC is upon us and the trailer for Shadow of the Erdtree has people beyond hyped. Even the looming threat of a Deathblight swamp or Malenia 2.0 can’t dim their excitement.
Fans of the base game have been keeping their ear to the ground for any possible details about the DLC like the identity of the mysterious Messmer. One detail that we do know has garnered a surprising reaction from fans.
The Elden Ring DLC’s lofty $39.99 USD price would usually send prospective players into a frenzy. Not so for Elden Ring. Fans have taken it to mean we’re in for something special.
Gene Park took to X to comment on a trend they’d noticed regarding the discussion of Shadow of the Erdtree’s price. Despite costing nearly twice as much as the Season Pass for Dark Souls 3 – which included two expansions – players weren’t complaining.
The trust that FromSoftware has cultivated with its previous titles and their subsequent DLC means players are more than happy to pay the price of entry. “FromSoftware literally never misses with DLC. No doubt in my mind that this will be the best 40 bucks I’ve ever spent in my entire life,” one player explained.

“Looking at FromSoftware’s history with Artorius of the Abyss, Old Hunters, and Ringed City, it’s safe to say that we still haven’t played the best part of Elden Ring,” another player responded. “Elden Ring DLC could have cost 200$ and I would’ve bought it,” said another.
FromSoftware President Hidetaka Miyazaki has said that Shadow of the Erdtree will be the developer’s biggest expansion to date. Given their history of overdelivering, it seems the company thinks Elden Ring’s DLC is more than worth its staggering price.
Players have been drawing comparisons between Shadow of the Erdtree’s price and that of Cyberpunk 2077’s game-saving Phantom Liberty expansion.
If the amount of content in Elden Ring’s DLC is comparable to CD Projekt RED’s most recent effort, the excitement will be understandable.
