Popular TikTok star Addison Rae has explained why she prefers TikTok to photo-sharing app Instagram, in a revealing interview with Vogue magazine. 

Addison Rae is, despite being just 19 years of age, one of the world’s largest creators on TikTok; the Beijing based video-sharing app that grew to be the sixth most downloaded app of the past decade.

An LA native, Addison is good friends with Charli D’Amelio, the 15-year-old who currently sits as TikTok’s number one most-followed account, and Rae is gaining fast. After downloading TikTok in the summer of 2019, she has accumulated 31 million followers in just nine months.

Now, Rae has sat down with Spanish Vogue for an interview about her rise to stardom, as well as about TikTok as a brand new form of social media.

It was during this discussion about TikTok that Rae revealed why she thinks it has been so successful, especially compared to social media juggernaut Instagram.

“I think the social network gives everyone the ability to express themselves much more than just a photo. TikTok has become a place where everyone feels welcome,” said Addison.

When asked what she would say to prospective TikTokers, Rae stated: “Go for it! There are people who will enjoy your content and interact with it as long as you are yourself. Everyone likes to see something new!”

Rae appears to be of the opinion that TikTok allows a breadth of content that Instagram does not, as well as being a more inclusive platform, that promotes and celebrates original, unique content.

Among other things, Rae also revealed what she believes to be the secret to a great TikTok – the lighting. She explained that she the time of day can actually be crucial, because of preferable lighting.

“The key is good lighting,” Rae explained, “I always try to record around lunchtime, it is a time when there is a good light.”

Despite the interview not being exhaustive, it simply constituted another peek behind the curtain of one of the internet’s fastest-rising stars.
