CoryxKenshin is a hugely popular YouTuber, boasting over 5 million subscribers due to his humorous commentary videos — but the star disappeared from the platform last year, which he explained in his unexpected return months later.
Cory took a sudden hiatus from all social media nine months ago, with fans and fellow YouTubers both confused and desperate for the creator to make a comeback with more videos.
However, the internet star didn’t return until April 3, uploading a 15-minute-long video explaining where he’d been and why he’d chosen to step back not only from YouTube, but from all social media platforms, altogether.
In his video, Cory clarified that he’d taken the time off for some much-needed R&R, showing viewers footage from his trips to Japan, New York, and other excursions, including multiple Make-A-Wish visits with fans.
While he claimed that he’d had the “time of his life” during his break, he also admitted that he’d been struggling with anxiety over making videos and returning to YouTube, in general.
“It hasn’t been sunshine and blue skies the entire time on this side of the camera,” he explained. “There were indeed some times that the anxiety, and just me overthinking things really came down on me.”
Despite making multiple attempts at coming back to YouTube throughout last year, he claimed his heart wasn’t in it, and felt stressed and guilty about leaving his viewers without content in the interim.

“I would turn the camera on, and my heart would not be in it,” he continued. “You can’t force it. You can, but it’s just kinda wack. People can usually see through fake YouTubers. I never want to be fake. I never want to purport that my life is perfect and I’m happy all the time. I’m not.”
The YouTuber ended his video by thanking his fans for their loyalty in spite of his break and explaining that he’d needed to “recharge,” understanding that he can’t expect himself to pump out viral videos at all times.
Cory’s video has since shot to the top of YouTube’s Trending page and has garnered over two million views at the time of writing — so it’s safe to say that his community is both relieved and happy that he’s finally back.
