Dr Disrespect roasts Twitch following brand revamp

Twitch: Dr Disrespect / Twitch

Twitch star Guy ‘Dr Disrespect‘ Beahm has slammed the streaming platform’s recent redesign, taking aim at their interesting choice of font.

Twitch announced its redesign on September 26, revealing a brand new color scheme, logo, and font. The iconic purple is gone from the main website for the most part, replaced with either black or white across the website depending on if you run dark or light mode, and the font and logo have been changed up

However, these little alterations have caught the ire of some prominent streamers, like Dr Disrespect, who took aim at the platform’s decision-making.

GFUELThe Doc has slammed Twitch’s redesign.

The two-time commented on the new design hours after it was revealed, roasting the particular font Twitch decided to use as part of changing up their logo and other text.

“This Twitch font belongs on a Nokia phone,” he said, insinuating that the ‘modern’ redesign seem like a step backwards for the platform.

Dr Disrespect is not the only Twitch star to comment on the website’s refreshed look. On a September 26 stream, former Overwatch League pro Daniel ‘dafran’ Francesca begged Twitch to “get (the old design) f***ing back,” while many other smaller streamers have expressed their disappointment.

The Twitch redesign was an attempt to modernize the platform, which hadn’t really had a massive update since all the way back in 2011.

In an interview with The Verge, Twitch’s executive creative director Byron Phillipson said that it was important the redesign was centred around the community.

“Everything we do needs to be in service of making sure that the folks that are on our platform – our community – really feel like they matter,” he said.

New designs usually attract massive community disdain. Riot’s new logo for League of Legends turned heads for being too simple, while Twitter’s mobile-style desktop platform enraged users for the first few days, although people eventually got used to it.

The Doc has yet to go live with the new Twitch redesign up and running, seeing as how he’s currently busy with TwitchCon, but it’s very likely that the Two-Time will have some more opinions to share about it once he gets back to his regular schedule.
