A verification badge has become a status symbol on TikTok and shows that the user with the badge is notable on the app. But how do you go about to become verified on TikTok? Here’s everything you need to know.
TikTok has seen rapid growth in popularity over the past couple of years, and with that, thousands of creators are flocking to the app to share content with millions of viewers, while trying to build a name for themselves there.
Many celebrities have ended up joining the short-form video app, and with that, TikTok implemented a verification feature like other websites such as Twitter and Instagram to prevent fake accounts.
So, how do you get selected for verification on TikTok? Here’s everything you need to know.
What does being verified on TikTok mean?
According to TikTok, “a verified badge means that TikTok has confirmed the account belongs to the person or brand it represents. Our creators come from all walks of life and the verified badge is a quick and clear way to let you know you are following the real deal, rather than a parody or fan account.”
They note that verified badges can only be applied by TikTok, so if someone doesn’t have a badge below their username, but they do have it somewhere else on their profile such as their bio, then that is not a legitimately verified account.
How to get verified on TikTok
Up until November 2022, there was no way for a user themselves to request verification on TikTok, but now users in certain areas are able to do so through the app.
If you have the feature on the app and you want to apply to be verified, just do as follows:

Some users may also be able to use TikTok’s website to request to be verified.
You should be aware that you will be asked to provide credible written media coverage, such as news articles about or by you.
TikTok explains: “We consider a number of factors before granting a verified badge, such as whether the notable account is authentic, unique, and active. Keep in mind, we don’t consider the number of followers or likes on your account as a requirement when granting a verified badge.”
If you don’t get approved the first time, you will be able to apply to be verified again after 30 days.
