YouTube king Felix ‘PewDiePie’ Kjellberg may have called time on the ‘Sub To Pewdiepie’ campaign, however, that hasn’t stopped some fans following through with their major plans.
For the better part of a year, PewDiePie had been locked into a battle for YouTube supremacy with Bollywood music label T-Series – keeping his rivals at bay for as long as humanly possible thanks to overwhelming fan support.
The Swede’s viewers had pulled out every trick in the book, including holding their own parade, hacking into games like Grand Theft Auto, and getting professional sports teams involved with their own displays and performances.
Fans pay for Subscribe to PewDiePie plane
However, one group of fans dove deep into their own pockets to follow through on an idea to thank Pewds by having a plane display the “Subscribe to PewDiePie” message.
Users of the PewDiePieSubmissions subreddit, which the YouTuber regularly checks-in on in his videos, had been aiming to raise $3,000 so that they could fly a plane around Manhattan, New York with a thank you PewDiePie banner attached.
That initial goal was smashed, as fans raised over $4,000 and were able to organize the flying of a “Subscribe to PewDiePie” banner on April 29 – the ninth anniversary of his channel.

The end of Subscribe to PewDiePie
While the “Subscribe to PewDiePie” tagline initially started out life as a joke, in a bid to combat T-Series, quickly became a meme that could be regularly spotted around anything closely linked to PewDiePie.
However, on April 28, the Swede called for his fans to stop using the message as it had become more just a meme – with some using it to vandalize the Brooklyn War Memorial, sparking outrage from local residents.
Considering it was in the works before Pewds shut down the campaign, it remains to be seen if this plane banner is the final “Subscribe to PewDiePie” display from fans, or if others have similar ideas of their own.
