Top Twitch streamer Imane ‘Pokimane’ Anys has explained just how much of an impact Twitch Prime had on her own and other’s streaming careers in her January 13 livestream.
Twitch Prime was launched in September 2016, a benefit to Amazon Prime members after the e-commerce giant first acquired Twitch.
Twitch Prime grants users one free subscription to their favorite streamer each month, which would usually cost $5. Of course, this means that streamers are also benefiting from Twitch Prime subscriptions, with even more people than before willing to subscribe to them because it’s free.
While in a call with fellow streamers esfand and jonzherka, they got onto the topic of Twitch Prime and how much it changed their lives.
“When it came out, my sub count doubled in, like, one day,” Pokimane revealed. “I was moving and I set everything up within one night, just because I knew it was coming out the next day and I just had to stream.”
She went on to explain just how profound the impact it had was, saying “Twitch Prime just made people’s careers, basically. The difference between making $2,000 and $4,000 in a month is massive.”

While her fellow streamers agreed with her, they also joked about how they “couldn’t get anybody to watch back then, let alone sub,” but Pokimane explained that it “always starts that way” anyway.
The idea that Twitch Prime subs alone could have potentially doubled people’s monthly income is staggering, especially back then when Twitch Prime was still very new and likely had fewer users, too.
It’s highly possible that such a chance meant so many popular streamers could make it a full-time thing and really chase their dreams, meaning people like Pokimane could take their content one step further and make it a viable career option for so many more aspiring streamers.
